After spending 5 years in digital marketing, I've recently realized how weird it is that nobody really talks about local SEO.
Sure... out here in digital marketing land where we're all selling intangible products, local listings don't mean much. But to some small business owners, their local listings are the source of most of their income.
Think about it.
If you're looking for a restaurant, doctor, coffee shop, math tutor, or whatever else; where do you go?
You type it up in google.
Restaurant near me... Doctor near me... Coffee Shop near me... Math Tutor near me...
And then Google gives you a list of businesses, right? So you go down the list and choose the business that you like the most. It's a really simple, awesome system that you should be taking advantage of as a small business owner.
Because if people can't see you, they're not going to buy from you.
I recently had a really good discussion with a friend of mine, and he made me realize just how important SEO is to local businesses.
Even though business is doing really well, he's probably leaving half a million dollars on the table every year because he hasn't optimized anything for SEO.
And he knows it.
Several people rank higher than him on Google, and they're stealing his business with their inferior products.
Everyday people are buying from his competitors instead of him, because their names come first on the list.
But there is nothing he can do about it, right?
Wrong. There are a ton of things he can do about it...
He can get more reviews.
He can get better reviews.
He can change the category on his Google Business Profile.
He can add keywords to his website.
He could start a blog.
There are probably 100 other things he could also do to increase his ranking.
But for most small business owners, they don't even know where to start.
My friend paid some idiot $300 to fix his local SEO problem. She did absolutely nothing but take a meeting with him, and then run off with his money.
Honestly, that is such a shame.
Because small businesses need people that they can trust to be in their corner. People that are going to support them in whatever way they can.
Not people that are going to take their money, and leave them with nothing in return.
So I decided to make this quick little SEO audit so anyone can take control, and have some concrete ways to improve their Google ranking as a small business.
I just want to give something to you guys for supporting me.
